A Piazza of Our Own

Watercolor on Fabriano cotton paper. Painted with gratitude after being commissioned by the Mug Committee for the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences, Class of 2025–26. The only thing that could pull me away from Italy with pleasure is Stanford, CASBS, and the extraordinary community that gathered beneath the umbrellas each afternoon in our own little piazza. Camellias in bloom, wild turkeys gaggling at us as our conversations unfolded over long lunches. We did manage to turn in our trays on time.
